Ballet for a Day

Full-shot Close-up1 Hair Shoes Close-up2

I may not actually do ballet, but my sister does, which means I can occasionally steal her ballet gear for the sake of fashion. While this “Isabelle” sweater works well for almost anyone’s style, I may have gotten a little carried away pairing it with pink leg warmers and a braided bun, which certainly don’t disguise its dance-wear inspired look. But hey, I’ll try basically any style, so add ballet to my list. My dainty little crystal necklace was a gift from a dear friend- doesn’t it add just the right touch of sparkle?

Put a Bow on It

I decided to wait until the sun was setting to take photos today, just to change things up a bit. It was a little windy out, but it was pleasant to admire the red sky as the sun set. I’m not really sure what inspired my outfit today, I guess I was just feeling the half-business-casual look. I actually started with the striped button-up, and nothing but a blazer-style jacket seemed to go. The hair-bow was a last-ditch effort to not look too grown up. When in doubt, “put a bird  bow on it!”

Fashionably Late

Full-shotHat Belt Shoes IMG_4298

I think I might be a little late to the party with the shorts over tights trend, but my shorts were looking very neglected in my drawer today, so I decided to give it a try. I actually like the look better than I thought I would! I think the long shirt helps it not look too bold (if there is such a thing as not too bold with these tights). I’m also pleasantly surprised how well this hair ribbon works as a belt. I felt like I needed a little more of a waist with this baggy shirt, but I only have a few belts at the moment, so I tried this. I needed a bow somewhere anyway, because we all know how much I love bows (a lot).

Shirt: AG Cargo Outfit
Shorts: Clarisse Original
Tights and Scarf: OG Color Me Plaid
Boots: AG Addy’s Meet Boots
Hat and Belt: Vintage

Mysterious

I had way too much fun with my photo-shoot today. I think I’ve been watching too much “Sherlock” because wearing this hat now makes me feel irrationally mysterious (yet charming) and stealthy. I blame the necklace as well, as its distinguishable antiqueness suggest it may have hidden secrets, wouldn’t you say? I’m not sure why I never thought to borrow it from Cecile before, antique jewelry is always in style. Now step aside, I must find a mystery to solve!

Today I’m off to do a little fabric shopping. I’m looking for spring fabrics for some new clothes this coming season, but I’m finding it difficult to keep dressing like it’s winter when I’ve been looking at all spring colors and trends. Luckily, I have this warm vest and ear-warmer in a nice berry pink, that feel like winter but somewhat satisfy my yearning for spring colors. But oh! Bright minty green, coral, and lilac purple are calling my name! Soon Clarisse, soon.

Questions for Clarisse: Organizing

Question from Alice Sylvia: Do you store your clothing in any special way–like all blouses together, for instance? I know that when I shop at AG, I tend to keep all the AG things together by collection. I just got Isabelle’s coral sweater and black jacket, and you have me thinking I should loosen up and mix-and-match a little more, but my clothes aren’t organized in such a way as to make that easy! I need to set my closet free!
Question from Xyra: I like mixing and matching my outfits, but am starting to worry about getting all the pieces back in the correct box. Any thoughts on how to keep my AG outfits together?

Keeping an organized closet is very important in getting the most out of your wardrobe! Let’s start off by taking a peek into my closet…

Try using a spring rod across a closet space to keep dresses and jackets or tops hung and free of wrinkles. You can maximize the use of the space by putting drawers underneath to hold accessories or other clothing items.
Hanging

Use plastic drawers and bins to keep everything else organized- on the bottom we have shoes, then bags, and in the top drawer, socks and tights.
Tower

On the top shelf, you can see a few hat boxes for hats and a “laundry” basket. I like to keep that in the closet for days when I’m in a hurry getting ready, and don’t have time to put everything I take off in its proper place. It’s good to have a place to toss those items, so when you do have time, you can put them away, but they have a place to be in the meantime.

This little drawer unit is the perfect size for tops, sweaters, and bottoms. Drawers2

This one is great for small accessories, like jewelry, hair accessories, glasses, and belts.
Drawers1

That’s how I stay organized! For people like Xyra, who prefer to keep outfits together, I still suggest drawers and bins. Look for smaller sized drawers, so each one can hold a few complete outfits without getting too jumbled up. Try organizing them into categories such as seasons or occasions, so you will know where to find what you are looking for. If you really want to keep them organized, buy medium sized zip lock bags, and keep each outfit in its own bag. For those who do not have as much shelf space, look for large drawers, such as the one we have under our hanging rod, that can fit under a bed or other furniture, and pull out easily when it’s time to get dressed. All of these types of storage bins are available in many places such as Target, Walmart, and hardware stores. Now go forth and “set your closet free!”

Weekend Wear

Full-shotIMG_3965BootsHair

It’s absurd how much I think it’s Friday today. Even though I had an extra day off on Monday, I still feel like this week must be over by now. I’m mentally checking out a day early and wearing my usual weekend attire: comfy comfy comfy. I dug this sweater out the other day when I decided I love purple again, and it is perfect for a loungy day around the house along with my fleecy purple boots. Now excuse me while I go make some tea and try to convince myself that it’s still only Thursday.

What I’m wearing:
Wrap Sweater: AG Marisol’s Meet
Tank: Clarisse Original
Skirt: AG Mia’s Meet
Leggings and Boots: AG Frosty Fair Isle Set
Hair Ribbon: AG Addy’s Blue Dress

Pink Lady

This outfit makes me want to go ice skating. I’ve put on this aqua sweater with this pink skirt several times, and every time, I think “I need to find an ice rink.” It could be that the sweater and hat are from AG’s Mia collection, which is based around ice skating, but it’s only when paired with this skirt. Anyway, I’ve yet to find an ice rink, so the snowy back yard will have to do for today. Also, I’ve got some pink-on-pink happening with the skirt and tights, but the shades of pink are just different enough so that it doesn’t look too tacky, especially since only a sliver of the tights really show. Sometimes one shade of pink just isn’t enough!

I’m not really pushing the limits or making up new rules today, just keeping it simple. You really can’t go wrong with a tucked-in blouse, denim, a belt, and boots. I added some green accents for fun, but was going for a fairly plain look without any particular piece standing out. I’m not usually one for booty shots, but I was pleasantly surprised how perfectly this belt fit through the belt-loops on these jeans, and had to show off that fun discovery. As for the pig-tails, I think my mind is still a little bit on the farm from the other day.

Questions for Clarisse: Messy Bun Tutorial

Question from Trexplex: For a “messy bun” that hairdo looks so great! How do you do it?

Thank you for prompting my first hair tutorial! I call this the messy bun, because it is loose and casual, as opposed to a tight and smooth ballerina bun. Here I’m showing you how to do it high on the head, but you can try it low at the base of the neck, or to the side if you’d like!

What you’ll need: A small hair tie and a few bobby pins (and a doll hair brush)

Pic1

First brush hair out smoothly. No need to spritz with water, as a few fly-aways are ok!
Hair1

Brush hair up into a high loose pony
IMG_3595

Next, twist the hair, allowing it to spiral around the pony
Hair3

Secure the end with a bobby pin (that little dot at the base of the bun) Hair4

Place other bobby pins around base of the bun as needed, to keep it close to the head
Hair5

Messy bun!
