When in doubt- throw on a denim jacket. It’s really hard not to look stylish with a dress, denim jacket, and any basic accessory. Plus, if you’re feeling extra confident, you can flip up the collar and walk with a slight air of playful irony, so as to not come off as pompous. But let’s be real. It’s also hard not to feel awesome in a popped collar.
I don’t have a particularly inspiring outfit to show you today, because it was a messy bun, sweater, and get to work kind of day. The good news is- this is because your favorite things that sold out of the shop are coming back on Wednesday! Yes that’s right, the Floral Pleats Dress, Ruffle Wrap Dress, Sherbert and Lace Cloche, and Bowler Hat will be back in stock, so keep your eye out if you missed out on them! You can follow the shop here for updates: Clarisse’s Closet Etsy
This is what I like to call 50% winter and 50% spring. I was going with an average of the weather yesterday (winter) and what it looked like it was going to be like today (spring) and I think it turned out to be a happy medium. You may be thinking, “it looks an awful lot like it is spring where you are,” but what you don’t know, is that I’m standing about a foot away from a long stretch of snow and ice that has refused to melt. That’s the magic of pictures- you only get to see what I want you to see….
I have to hand some credit to my friend acuppateawithag over on Instagram for this outfit, because her Sonali has an awesome boho style, which totally inspired this look! I felt like trying something different today, so I dug through our “vintage” (historical) drawer, and pulled out this gem of a skirt, which was inspired by AG’s Josefina collection. Without my friend Sonali, I would have never seen the modern potential in this skirt, and “Boho Clarisse” would have remained tragically undiscovered. Thank goodness for friends!
If you enjoyed the “Holiday Must-Have” guide this winter, you may find this spring fashion guide helpful for your spring shopping! Here are my top five must-haves for spring, with links to some great examples that are available on Etsy!
1. Floral Print Dress
A floral print with is the #1 need for spring! Whether for an outdoor “garden party” event, or just a casual day in the sunshine, every girl needs a patterned spring dress!
2. Light Jacket
Spring clothes are wonderful, but sometimes it is just too chilly to wear a sleeveless or short-sleeved dress or top alone. A lightweight outer-layer is perfect to keep you warm, and add a little more style to your look!
3. Cropped Pant
Maybe it’s just me, but my obsession for spring is cropped pants. They don’t feel as restricting as full-length jeans, but are a little less summer-y than shorts. Plus, they often come in colors to add even more fun to your spring wardrobe!
4. Spring Scarf
Everyone knows I’m an accessory girl, so I think a light-weight scarf is a staple for a stylish wardrobe! It’s a great way to add a little extra something to a simple outfit, or bring a great outfit to the next level!
5. Flower Adornment
To add the finishing touch, choose an accessory that features the true sign of spring: flowers!
A spring outfit is hardly complete without at least a trace of a flower somewhere. I inherited a fun bag full of hand-me-down fabric and sewing “do-dads” this weekend, and picked out this lovely purple pansy that I found in there for my hair today, to complement the purple embroidery on this skirt. Doesn’t it just add the finishing touch?
Although she loves to dress up as Queen Elsa, Camille’s natural habitat is at the barn wearing her boots, flannel, and a cowgirl hat. I thought it would be fun to join her for a spring ride today, though I’m not nearly as comfortable on a horse as she is. I tried to dress the part (without sacrificing my Clarisse flair of course), but it was “safety first” when it came to the helmet. It’s quite overcast and windy today, but we enjoyed the ride nonetheless, and I will rarely turn down an opportunity to break out the fringy white cowboy boots.
It’s spring ya’ll. The grass may not be bright green, and my knees may have been shivering a bit during these photos, but the calendar says it’s spring, so by golly I say it’s time for spring clothes! I also have to share that I was visited by two geese during this photo-shoot (I like to think of them as couple, but maybe I’m just a romantic). They didn’t seem to mind me sharing the grass with them, and there was something soothing about a couple of animals just chillin’ in my yard. ‘Tis a happy day indeed.
I like to tell myself that I don’t like pink and purple together anymore, because that is what I liked to wear when I was about 7, but I have come to realize that some days, it just happens. These purple pants refused to be paired with anything but this pink vest, so I gave in to it. Someday I might outgrow it, but maybe I won’t. And maybe I’m okay with that.
I just made it outside with enough light left to snap some pictures today. It turned out to be a much busier day than I expected, so my outfit photos kept getting put off, until the point where the recent daylight savings time adjustment saved me from not getting any pictures at all! However, this was a bit of a happy accident, as sunset light is actually quite lovely. My most attentive followers might notice that I stole this skirt and belt combination from my Elle Fanning inspired outfit that I posted a few weeks ago; I loved the combo in theory and I think it looks great on too!
