A is for Autumn Accessories (and Apples)

Today’s look was built around the quintessential fall accessories- a denim jacket, cloche hat, something flannel, and a pair of boots. While a trip to the apple orchard wasn’t in the plans for the day, this is exactly the kind of outfit I’d wear to go apple picking, and wearing it makes me want to go! I’m not sure which is my favorite part of apple picking- actually picking the apples or eating the delicious desserts that Pippa makes with them afterwards… we will have to plan a trip to our local orchard soon!

So long September, tomorrow’s October! If you haven’t already unpacked your flannels, sweaters, and boots, now is the time. Well, at least for us here in the Northern U.S. and everywhere else that is blessed with fabulous cool weather and the smell of autumn leaves during this time of year. I hadn’t made a new “Clarisse Original” for myself in a while, and I’m not sure what inspired me to go with a swan for the sweater, but thank you to whatever it was because I’m pretty in love with it.

What I’m Wearing:
Sweater and Collar: Clarisse Originals
Skirt: @agmarket on Instagram
Boots: AG Saige’s Meet

Questions for Clarisse: Lindsey’s Meet Sweatshirt

Here’s another requested restyle: GOTY 2001 Lindsey’s meet sweatshirt! Here is her original outfit:

The following outfits were created using Polyvore, with items from AG, Etsy, Ebay, and a few basic girl-sized pieces to fill in the gaps.

Lindsey in 2015: To start off, I created an outfit similar to Lindsey’s original one, but updated the pieces other than the sweatshirt to be a little more 2015 and less 2001! The khaki moto pants and red converse echo Lindsey’s sporty style, while a plain green V-neck tee makes a nice alternative to her original tee. In lieu of her little red barrette, I added a red beanie hat, which is a popular look right now, and one I can definitely imagine Lindsey rocking as she rides her scooter (or perhaps now she would have moved on to longboarding).

Lindsey's Jacket Outfit 2
Pieces Shown:
V-neck Tee: Camelot’s Treasures
Moto Pants: Maddie’s Girls
Red Sneakers: 18InchDolls
Beanie: Girl sized (Similar Here)

AGP Bound: This next look plays up the red accents again, and would be a great one for a shopping trip, especially to an AG store! The sweatshirt looks great over a classic AGP tee, and the other red and aqua accents add a fun style to the look.
Lindsey's Jacket Outfit 1
Pieces Shown:
Hat: AG Fun Fedora
Tee: AGP Starry Tee
Shorts: Maddie’s Girls
Bag: AG Molly’s Accessories
Sunglasses: AG Julie’s 2-in-1 Summer Outfit
Shoes: AG Starry Hoodie Outfit

Back to School: This look is a little less bold, focusing on the blues and greens for a more casual, everyday look. Black boots and glasses create a nice contrast, and a coordinating backpack is the perfect school accessory.

Tank: AG Ruffled Hoodie
Pants: AG Ivy’s Meet
Glasses: AG Bitty Twins’ Glasses
Boots: AG Addy’s Classic Meet

Easy Breezy

IMG_3066    IMG_3071IMG_3076IMG_3078IMG_3096

It occurred to me today that I don’t often wear my hair completely down without even a bobby pin or a hat to top it off, so I decided to go au naturel with the hair today. It was a little challenging with the strong breeze (but who can complain about that when it’s been in the 90’s this week), but a few flyaways never caused any harm, right? I kept things simple with my outfit too, just focusing on a couple accessories and a simple color palette, but making sure I use some of my favorite summer items before it’s too late!

What I’m Wearing:
Top: Kit’s School Skirt Set
Skirt: La Poupee Bijoux
Shoes: Bitty Little Hearts Outfit (with heart removed)
Belt: Modern Doll World
Glasses: AG Rectangle Glasses
Watch: AG Holiday Accessories 2012

Nautical Vibes

I couldn’t wait to put together an outfit my new birthday purse, and this hand-me-down dress seemed like the perfect match! My friend @acuppateawithag on Instagram was recently clearing out her closet (like we all need to do once in a while) and I got this adorable nautical-inspired dress from her along with a couple other cute things. And what’s better to go with a blue and white striped dress than an anchor bracelet? You’ll never guess what this upcycled bracelet started as: a boot strap! One of my recent eBay purchases came with a pair of boots a few sizes too big for my little feet, but the decorative faux leather straps with gold hoop connectors were just begging to be made into something new, so I threw on a little anchor charm I had lying around, and voila! A “new” bracelet!

What I’m Wearing:
Dress: Yaojujube (c/o @acuppateawithag)
Purse: Kate Spade (Pink one is on sale!)
Belt: OG “Belt it Up” (Similar Here)
Shoes: Springfield Collection
Bracelet and Necklace: Clarisse Originals

Questions for Clarisse: Mixing Patterns

Here’s another great question from the style question giveaway: How do I mix patterns in an outfit without them clashing?

Although it may be intimidating to mix patterns in an outfit, it’s also a great way to be creative with your dolls’ wardrobe. Carefully selected prints can be paired together to create a fun fashion statement, but the wrong combination can lead to a fashion disaster! Here are some strategies for mixing patterns that will help you and your dolls stay fashionable, along with some examples I found from some of my favorite Etsy shops! (Click the images to visit the Etsy page).

  • Pick patterns that contrast in density. A busy pattern without a lot of background space paired with a more sparse, or spread-out pattern creates contrast between the patterns.

From Forever18Inches on Etsy

  • Pick patterns that contrast in scale, with one print having larger designs, and the other much smaller. This also creates contrast between the patterns, helping the outfit to not look too busy.

From Unending Treasures on Etsy

  • Having common colors between prints can help them look more cohesive, so try to match pieces that contain similar colors.

From Closet4Chloe

  • Simple geometric prints, such as polka dots, stripes, or gingham, pair well with larger prints such as florals. Particularly if they are in neutral colors, the simple prints can almost serve as a neutral in an outfit.

From Closet4Chloe

  • Use solid colored items to break up an outfit that seems to have too many patterns going on. The solid tank in this next outfit breaks up the patterns in the pants and cardigan.

From 123MulberryStreet on Etsy

  • Small pieces that don’t cover as much “skin” are easier to use when mixing patterns, simply because you’re not seeing as much of the pattern. In this last outfit, the contrasting patterns in the tank and shorts create a fun, bold look, but if the prints were in a long-sleeve tee and long pants, the patterns might be overwhelming.

What are your favorite prints to mix?

Belated Birthday

My birthday was actually July 7th, but with the summer release that week and some urgent family matters last week, I didn’t really get a chance to celebrate right away. However, my awesome siblings surprised me with a party today so I’m celebrating my birthday a little late this year!

Pippa made these amazing chocolate cupcakes with pink vanilla frosting- my favorite!
Camille and Theo even practiced some of my favorite songs so we could have a sing-a-long.

Questions for Clarisse: Mix-and-Match Basics

Several people who entered the style question giveaway asked about the basics of a mix-and-match wardrobe, and how to have the maximum potential of outfits without getting overwhelmed with too much clothing. To answer this, I went into my wardrobe and pulled out my most versatile pieces along with just a couple of accessories and the shoes I use most. I ended up with 24 pieces that I think are a great foundation to a minimal (but not boring) wardrobe! As you can see, you don’t necessarily have to limit yourself to one color theme in order to have pieces that can work together, but it helps to have some key colors along with plenty of neutrals. Here, I focused on coral/peach, orchid purple, aqua/turquoise, and soft pink.

1. Denim Jacket (Coconut’s Best Friend)- looks great over almost any dress or top and really pulls an outfit together
2. Printed Jersey Dress (La Poupee Bijoux)- casual and great for summer and spring
3. Calf Boots (Saige’s Meet)- works with dresses as well as with leggings or skinny jeans tucked in, and is fit for all seasons
4. Colored Cardigan (Bitty Blossom)- cardis are my favorite for completing an outfit, and a solid colored one that coordinates with other things in your wardrobe is sure to be a favorite
5. Long Necklace (Clarisse Original)- something to add a little flair to any outfit
6. Printed Cotton Dress (JanieJumps/SparrowandWren)- can be dressed up or down and makes an easy outfit with just an accessory or two
7. Espadrilles (Springfield)- a neutral colored shoe like this goes with almost anything and is great for the spring or summer
8. Subtle Print Tee (CarolineAugustDesign)- a subtle print is a little more interesting than a plain tee, but can still be mixed with other prints easily
9. Black Purse (DesignsbyOrvie)- a little shoulder bag is a great accessory, and black goes with lots of outfits
10. Printed Pants (KateLaurenDesigns)- adding a print on the bottom can really open up more options for interesting outfits, even though it may seem limiting based on what you have for on top. This is where the subtle print tee and a simple white tank come in handy.
11. Printed Tank (Clarisse’s Closet Summer 2014)- something simple that’s great for layering
12. Layering Piece (Weekend Fun) – can be a vest or maybe a sleeveless button-up top, just something that can be worn over other pieces without being too heavy
13. Denim Shorts (Exclusively18)- simple and go with any top
14. Colored Sandals (Weekend Fun)- add a pop of color to an outfit
15. Summer Scarf (Clarisse Original)- easy accessory to add interest to an outfit
16. Chambray button-up (KateLaurenDesigns)- perfect for layering or wearing on its own
17. White Tank (Clarisse Original)- self explanatory!
18. Slim-fit Jeans (Closet4Chloe)- fit inside boots and look cute with sandals or flats
19. Floral Blouse (Kit’s School Skirt)- Slightly dressier when paired with skirts, but can be dressed down with jeans
20. Neutral Skirt (JanieJumps/SparrowandWren)- More girly option to pair with patterned tops
21. Brown satchel (Battat/Ebay)- Just another option to add to outfits for a more completed look
22. Metallic Sandals (CraftySewingBee)- I find myself reaching for these for almost any outfit- they are more interesting than a brown or black sandal, but still go with any color
23. Cozy sweater (Isabelle’s Coral Sweater)- for a comfy, casual outfit
24. Black leggings (2-in-1 Skating Set)- can be worn alone for a casual look, or layered under skirts and dresses to help them transition into cooler seasons.

Here are some other outfit sets I created with the same 24 pieces:
