Pippa and I spent the weekend visiting some friends, and decided to take some photos there since the weather was so glorious! Sunshine and mid-70’s, what more can you ask for on a June day? We finally broke out our summer wardrobe and put away our winter clothes last week, so as you can see we had fun accessorizing with our favorite summer items like my shell necklace and sandals and Pippa’s nautical bag and straw fedora. I’m also thinking the hair-wrap bun will be my new go-to ‘do this summer because it’s cute and simple and keeps my hair off my neck and out of the way. Would anyone like to see a tutorial for the style?

Hello NYC!

Back in April I had the chance to visit NYC and meet some friends who I’ve enjoyed getting to know via the blogging/Instagram world, and we had a blast visiting the AG store together and exploring the city! May was a very busy month as I finished up with my school program, but now I’m settling into summer mode and finally getting to post our fun meet-up pictures.

The whole gang!

This is my friend Inky who has a fabulous blog, Super Inky

I had fun shopping at AG with my friend Reid, who I know through @AstoriaAvenueApparel on Instagram, who hosted the meet-up! We enjoyed some pastries with Grace, and got to hang out in the Personal Shopper lounge when we got tired from all the shopping 😉

I even won 2 of the awesome giveaways that were donated by some great shops! I let Elle and Tillie try them on when we got home- how cute are they?

This adorable flamingo dress is from Aunt Sissy Originals. It’s perfect for summer and fits right in with the popular flamingo trend this year!

This one is from Katherine’s Creations! It’s sooo perfect for Tillie and goes great with the silver headband from QTpie Doll Clothing.

I had such a great time and I hope to go to another meet-up soon so I can meet some more friends!

Beginnings, Confessions, and Into the Unknown

I have a confession to make.

I’ve sort of been holding out on you all, mostly because I wasn’t sure what I needed to say, but here it is: Today I began a year-long school program (which you will at least be happy to know relates to fashion), and I have to come to terms with the fact that it will undoubtedly impact Clarisse’s Closet.

Nicole and I have enjoyed the past 10 months of posting almost daily during the week, bringing you fashion inspiration, tips, and answers to your sticky style situations, and hope you will look back at posts from the last year if you are in need of some fashion pick-me-ups!

What this means for the blog:
If you’ve grown accustomed to checking the blog daily for your dose of doll fashion, we’re sorry to say that posts will be less frequent. Studies must come first! This may mean one or two weekly posts, or even just a monthly post- we can’t say exactly. However, we will continue to post when we are able, and hope that you’ll keep sending “Questions for Clarisse,” because we love answering those! If you aren’t already, be sure to follow the blog by scrolling down to the bottom of the right-hand column of the page and click the “follow” button, so you will receive an e-mail notification when we post something new.

What this means for the shop:
We have lots of great items planned for the fall, and hope to share them with you all soon. Previously our collections have been released all at once, but it is more likely that we will release small groups of items at a time, and fewer quantities of each, so still keep an eye on the Etsy shop!

Thank you all for your support all these months, and we hope you will continue to be friends of Clarisse’s Closet, even as we venture into the unknown territory of this coming academic year and any opportunities that may arise from it.

Love, Clarisse and Nicole

Fire1 Full-shot Close-up2 Scarf Close-up Fire2

On Saturday evening, I took a little road trip with my family to Providence, RI for “WaterFire.” It is quite a spectacular event, where part of the city becomes like a festival as everyone gathers around the river, which is lit with floating fires! It was so neat to watch the people go along the river in boats, lighting each fire with a torch. As the fires crackled and grew it became mesmerizing with the calming music that was amplified all along the river. If you are in the area, it’s definitely a fun event to check out (I believe they do it every other Saturday).
As for my outfit, we made a couple garage/estate sale stops along the way, and I picked up this cute vintage scarf to add to my look for our day-trip! I found a couple other fun things too, aren’t garage sales fun?

It’s a little soon for long sleeves, but I just love this floral top and couldn’t wait to wear it, so I decided I would manage the heat by just pushing the sleeves up. The 3/4 length purple pants complemented the look quite nicely, and some neutral/gold accessories were all I needed to complete the outfit! Camille helped me with the “Elsa braid,” which is one of her favorite looks now. I quite like it myself!

Saturday Night Swing

Last Saturday night, my friend Elle invited a bunch of us to go to a swing dance with her, and boy did we have a blast! I’m not much of a dancer, but I thought it’d be fun to go and see her dance because I’ve heard she is fabulous, and she did not disappoint! The live band was also wonderful and played lots of great 50’s tunes, so it was worth going to hear them play too. IMG_4831IMG_4979

Elle and her dance partner did a little demonstration and we all clapped along- the music was so fast I don’t know how they moved their feet so quickly! IMG_5152IMG_5119 IMG_5060 IMG_5064-001

Later he asked me to dance… I was a bit intimidated after seeing how well he and Elle danced together, but Camille convinced me to give it a try. IMG_5155

I learned the basics so I could at least follow along- it’s easier being the follower instead of having to lead! IMG_5157 IMG_5041

Overall we had a great night, and I highly recommend checking out a swing dance sometime. The music is great even if you aren’t a dancer, and who knows? You might be lucky like me and find a nice person to dance with you anyway!

Frozen Outfits Now Available!

After receiving far more requests than I could even imagine having time to fulfill, I finally made one set of Anna and Elsa costumes to sell. These outfits are very time-consuming detailed projects, and while working on my seasonal modern collections, it took me until now to have the time to focus on them! After much thought, I have decided to sell them via eBay rather than Etsy, so that all of the people who were hoping to get one will get a chance, instead of just whoever sees the listings first.

Here are the listings! (click to go to eBay):

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Full-shot   Close-upShoesHair

I managed to sneak outside in the few minutes that the sun decided to come out, but today was mostly another rainy day. After three in a row, it can get rather dreary, but it does keep me busy sewing inside without the lure of the sun wanting me to go out and play! That being said… the summer collection is coming along quite nicely, so I’ll be updating with more information about that on Monday. I also finished a different project this week that is long awaited for some of you… so be sure to check in for exciting news next week!

Totes Adorbs

Full-shot Close-up Sweater and Blouse   BootsHairFull-shot2

I found myself needing to kill some time at Barnes and Noble yesterday, and picked up Stacy London’s The Truth About Style. It was interesting to get to know her history and how she ended up where she did, plus there are some great make-over stories and photos. She describes one petite young lady as “totes adorbs” (for those of you who don’t understand abbreviation language- this is short for “totally adorable”), and the phrase seemed to stick with me while I was getting dressed today. Something about the pink boots and sparkly cardigan paired with this floral blouse seemed to channel the essence of “totes adorbs.”
