Halloween Photo-booth Fun

I hope you’re all having a fun Halloween!

This year I had to work with items I had in my closet for my costume since I didn’t have time to make a new one, but I was having a creative hair moment, and was able to pull together a “Heidi” inspired costume!

Camille and I invited some friends over for a costume party, and we set up a photo-booth so we could take lots of fun and silly pictures….

Here’s Elle dressed as a snowman, and Annie dressed as Blossom, the Powerpuff Girl:

Here’s Hadley the black cat, Astrid as Mary Poppins, and Macie the pirate:
Cat Mary Poppins and Pirate

Ruby and Camille have been doing some baby-sitting lately and are constantly singing Disney Junior songs, so naturally they wanted to dress up as Doc McStuffins and her favorite stuftie, Lambie!

Sonia went with a lovely masquerade look, and Meryl is looking fabulous as a movie star:

I had to take some pictures with my loving sister of course…. Clarisse and Camille

We’re certainly ready for a fun night, Happy Halloween!

Close-up Necklace Full-shot
Hair 2  Hair

It has sort of been a life long dream of mine to be the one to play “Auld Lang Syne” at midnight on the new year, and though I’ve been practicing the past couple of days, we will see how confident I feel with a party full of people at the strike of 12. I may chicken out (or be asleep), in which case my New Year’s resolution will be to learn it for next year. Either way, I hope to improve my piano playing in 2014. As for my party attire, I love doing metallics for New Year’s Eve, so this silver skirt was a no-brainer, but the necklace definitely steals the show. I’m so glad that the double-stranded necklace look is fairly popular, as it opens up a whole world of full size necklaces to be used on 18″ gals like us, just by wrapping it twice. I also love doing fun hairstyles for fancy parties, so I went a little braid-crazy and came up with this! The low side bun is a stand-by for me; I think it looks polished, but modern with that little bit of asymmetry.

Silver and Gold

It’s Christmas Eve and I’m just finishing up with wrapping the last few presents and adding them to the collection under the tree. With a family party to attend later, I have my Christmas finery on, with festive touches in every piece. Red tights, a red and green plaid dress, silver shoes, a bow headband, and even gold dots on my blouse, I’m ready for a festive evening! You may question my mixing of silver and gold details, but since the gold is subtle and the Christmas song “Silver and Gold” is from my favorite Christmas movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (whose adorable reindeer girlfriend, also named Clarisse, coincidentally shares my love for bows) I think it is allowed. Merry Christmas Eve!

Party Skirt

I’ve been waiting so patiently for a Christmas party to get to wear this skirt, and finally the day has come. When I found this fabric I couldn’t help but think of wrapping paper, and since I love wrapping and decorating presents, I knew it was destined to be a party skirt. I decided to keep it simple with an ivory sweater, but added a sparkly headband and my favorite pair of kitten heels to provide some contrasting color and a bit of extra fanciness. And so begins the weekend/week of parties and festivities with family and friends, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

What I’m wearing:
Skirt: Clarisse original
Sweater: AG Emily’s accessories
Shoes: AG Midnight Holly
Headband: Gift from AGPT’s Wickfield

Fresh Footprints

At last, a true layer of snow on the ground. There is something so warm and fuzzy about making fresh footprints with my boots in virgin snow. Well, warm and fuzzy for my feet that are enveloped in fur and warmness in my boots. My fingers were another story. If only my hands weren’t so stinking big I could make myself pockets big enough for more than my thumb. But alas, we all have our insecurities and things we wish we could change. I won’t even get going on the abnormally large size of my head. Atop my oversized head however, I am proud to debut my hat, which is one of many wool felt hats I have been experimenting with making. Perfect for tiny snowflakes to cling to!

What I’m wearing:
Sweater: AG Kirsten’s Knit Woolens
Thermal: AG Wilderness Outfit
Boots: AG Snowball Sweater and Leggings
Pants, Scarf, Hat: Clarisse Originals

Top 5 Holiday Must-Haves

It’s that time of year! I love dressing for the holiday season, which to me means dressing in as many bows and sparkles as I can manage into one outfit without looking like an actual Christmas ornament (it’s a fine line). Here’s a list of my holiday essentials, with links (click on the picture to go to the listing) to where to find my favorite versions that are on ETSY right now, so you can find some festive things to either wear this year or get as gifts for your fashionable friends!

1. The Cozy Sweater or sweater dress
I think you’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t love to snuggle up by a fireplace with a cup of steaming deliciousness in a warm and cozy sweater. I almost want to stop everything and do that right now. But I will resist, at least until I finish this post…

2. Warm Accessories
Warm hats, mittens, and scarves are a must for those of us who live where we have white Christmases! They’re also a great way to add a little extra pizzaz to your outfit when you have to be all bundled up.

3. Party Dress
I always love going to (or hosting!) a festive gathering when everyone gets to dress up a bit! And holiday doesn’t always have to mean red or green (though it can)- it just needs to have that little extra something like a bit of sparkle, something velvet, or just a ribbon that gives it that holiday look.

4. Something Tacky
This may not be for everyone, but sometimes I just can’t resist a full fledge holiday design or print. I say tacky, but as long as it’s accompanied by an attitude of fun and an air of irony, in my book it’s absolutely allowed.

5. Something Subtle
For times when the tacky sweater isn’t appropriate, you can still express your holiday spirit in simpler ways with just a little something special. Accessories are a great way to do this, or a print that’s wintery, but not too over-the-top.

Fancy Free

Today I felt like dressing a little fancier than usual, so I did. Probably because I just got this fabulous dress and decided that being awake was a good enough reason to wear it. I paired it with a turtleneck so that I wouldn’t have to cover all of its fabulousness nor freeze to death. I suppose I’m slowly accepting the fact that it’s getting a little chilly (and by that I mean we got a few inches of legitimate snow this weekend). I’m not ready to fully commit to winter weather, but I can’t say seeing all the holiday decorations and hearing Christmas music at all the stores doesn’t make me want to go full out holiday on you. I tried to keep it subdued, but you wouldn’t be entirely wrong if you thought my ruby red hair ribbon was winking at a certain 25th of December.
