Saturday Night Swing

IMG_5207

Last Saturday night, my friend Elle invited a bunch of us to go to a swing dance with her, and boy did we have a blast! I’m not much of a dancer, but I thought it’d be fun to go and see her dance because I’ve heard she is fabulous, and she did not disappoint! The live band was also wonderful and played lots of great 50’s tunes, so it was worth going to hear them play too. IMG_4831IMG_4979

Elle and her dance partner did a little demonstration and we all clapped along- the music was so fast I don’t know how they moved their feet so quickly! IMG_5152IMG_5119 IMG_5060 IMG_5064-001

Later he asked me to dance… I was a bit intimidated after seeing how well he and Elle danced together, but Camille convinced me to give it a try. IMG_5155

I learned the basics so I could at least follow along- it’s easier being the follower instead of having to lead! IMG_5157 IMG_5041

Overall we had a great night, and I highly recommend checking out a swing dance sometime. The music is great even if you aren’t a dancer, and who knows? You might be lucky like me and find a nice person to dance with you anyway!

A 50’s Feeling

Full-shotClose-up Bag Shoes Hair

I was definitely feeling a bit of a 50’s vibe today with my pearls, pony-tail, and pedal-pusher pants. The outfit was mostly inspired by the bag though. This cute little tote bag was a gift from my grandma, who passed it along thinking it looked like something I might find useful (she was right). The beading design does remind me a little bit of a Christmas tree, but I love the colors of the beads and the fabric seems like it could almost pass for beach-y, so we’re saying it’s a spring bag (just go with it).

Retro

Full-shotNecklaceClose-upShoesHair

I’m really feeling the vintage pieces today. I don’t usually go for the tucked-in look with these pants because they are so high-waisted, but by pairing them with a string of pearls and saddle shoes, I think it’s pretty clear I’m going for a retro look as opposed to wearing my mom’s pants. Fun fact: they are actually made from left-over fabric from a vintage skirt that needed to be majorly hemmed (yay up-cycling!). I just love the cropped style pants that we saw so much of last spring, and I’m hoping they’re in again because I will absolutely be wearing them as a staple in my spring wardrobe. Especially in patterns and colors. Oh yes.
