Today’s look was built around the quintessential fall accessories- a denim jacket, cloche hat, something flannel, and a pair of boots. While a trip to the apple orchard wasn’t in the plans for the day, this is exactly the kind of outfit I’d wear to go apple picking, and wearing it makes me want to go! I’m not sure which is my favorite part of apple picking- actually picking the apples or eating the delicious desserts that Pippa makes with them afterwards… we will have to plan a trip to our local orchard soon!
There was no snow to be seen around here for Christmastime, but I was very excited to see a sea of white when I looked out my window this morning! Pippa was brave enough to venture out with me for a little while, but we forgot our mittens and soon our cold fingers were begging to go in and warm up by the fireplace (but not before some pictures of course)! She is settling back in at home quite nicely, and is bubbling with ideas for the Clarisse’s Closet Etsy shop- can’t wait to do some more sewing!
Our sister Pippa has been in France for the past year doing a school program and finally came home! Camille and I waited outside to greet her and could hardly stand to wait. It’s been fun to hear about her stories and adventures while she was abroad, but we are very glad to have her back. I’ll share more photos of her arrival soon, but first we will let her unpack and tell us all about her trip!
I just love wearing bright colors in the summer- and this outfit is full of them! Bright coral and yellow make great color-blocking colors for a cheery summer outfit, and with a little extra color in my bracelet, I was feeling extra bright and cheerful. How can you not when the weather is this nice? My scarf is made via these tutorials, and if you haven’t tried them, you are missing out on some great summer accessorizing possibilities!

You may not think you recognize this sweet straw hat, but it’s actually from a bitty outfit that I picked up yesterday at the AG store! I was cashing out and mentioned how much I love hats to the cashier, and she recommended this outfit (which happens to be on sale right now for only $19), and I was sold immediately. The shoes were a little too summery for today’s outfit, but they are adorable too and fit very well. I’m also sporting a new scarf, which I made from some vintage silk that I have in my stash. If it suits your fancy, you will be happy to know that similar items will soon be available in my Etsy shop with the upcoming release of a whole new line! Check back for more information later this week!
I originally made this sheer blouse to wear for the holiday season, but I’ve decided to repurpose it as a spring piece because it is really handy for layering over tanks! As much as I’d love to prance around in just a tank-top, we have not quite reached an acceptable temperature for such attire, so I have to keep telling myself to appreciate the layering possibilities now before it’s too hot for anything more than a single layer. I did change out my warm sweaters and corduroys for all my summer dresses and shorts in my closet, which is not helping my patience in getting to wear them. Soon Clarisse, soon.
I think I might be a little late to the party with the shorts over tights trend, but my shorts were looking very neglected in my drawer today, so I decided to give it a try. I actually like the look better than I thought I would! I think the long shirt helps it not look too bold (if there is such a thing as not too bold with these tights). I’m also pleasantly surprised how well this hair ribbon works as a belt. I felt like I needed a little more of a waist with this baggy shirt, but I only have a few belts at the moment, so I tried this. I needed a bow somewhere anyway, because we all know how much I love bows (a lot).
I love a good messy bun. Who can argue with a stylish way to have a bad hair day? In this case I also used it to keep me from looking too uptight with my silk scarf and fitted embellished sweater. Before I added the scarf, as you can imagine, this outfit was pretty bland. Then pow! Add a little contrast and a little flair, oh the power of accessories! I blame moments like this for my excessive hoarding of fabric scraps. You just never know when a little scrap will end up as the finishing touch on an outfit.
