Nicole here! Today I filmed this video showing you how to get Clarisse’s hair wrap bun look from our last post. I’ve been wanting to do more videos, and since many Instagrammers were interested in this look, I thought it would be a good place to start. Since this is my first attempt at doing a fully narrated video tutorial like this, if you have any thoughts or feedback to share, please leave a comment so I can keep it in mind for the next one!
*If you are watching this on a mobile device, you might notice I mistakenly said Annie has a #39 wig, when it is actually a #38 wig- I corrected myself with a caption, but they don’t show up on mobile devices. Sorry for any confusion!

Pippa and I spent the weekend visiting some friends, and decided to take some photos there since the weather was so glorious! Sunshine and mid-70’s, what more can you ask for on a June day? We finally broke out our summer wardrobe and put away our winter clothes last week, so as you can see we had fun accessorizing with our favorite summer items like my shell necklace and sandals and Pippa’s nautical bag and straw fedora. I’m also thinking the hair-wrap bun will be my new go-to ‘do this summer because it’s cute and simple and keeps my hair off my neck and out of the way. Would anyone like to see a tutorial for the style?

Apparently the spring decided to take a little “intermission,” and allow winter to come back overnight with a fresh dumping of snow. I resolved to stay away from windows and remain in denial of this vicious attack on spring, and thankfully found that the sun had conquered and melted the snow by the afternoon. This is why I took advantage of the surprise beach day on Monday- you never know when winter might come back to haunt you. Long live the spring!

Question from Trexplex: For a “messy bun” that hairdo looks so great! How do you do it?
Thank you for prompting my first hair tutorial! I call this the messy bun, because it is loose and casual, as opposed to a tight and smooth ballerina bun. Here I’m showing you how to do it high on the head, but you can try it low at the base of the neck, or to the side if you’d like!
What you’ll need: A small hair tie and a few bobby pins (and a doll hair brush)
First brush hair out smoothly. No need to spritz with water, as a few fly-aways are ok!
Brush hair up into a high loose pony
Next, twist the hair, allowing it to spiral around the pony
Secure the end with a bobby pin (that little dot at the base of the bun)
Place other bobby pins around base of the bun as needed, to keep it close to the head

It has sort of been a life long dream of mine to be the one to play “Auld Lang Syne” at midnight on the new year, and though I’ve been practicing the past couple of days, we will see how confident I feel with a party full of people at the strike of 12. I may chicken out (or be asleep), in which case my New Year’s resolution will be to learn it for next year. Either way, I hope to improve my piano playing in 2014. As for my party attire, I love doing metallics for New Year’s Eve, so this silver skirt was a no-brainer, but the necklace definitely steals the show. I’m so glad that the double-stranded necklace look is fairly popular, as it opens up a whole world of full size necklaces to be used on 18″ gals like us, just by wrapping it twice. I also love doing fun hairstyles for fancy parties, so I went a little braid-crazy and came up with this! The low side bun is a stand-by for me; I think it looks polished, but modern with that little bit of asymmetry.
